Standard tyre fitment for the Rekord was initially a 640-13 crossply. When a 14-inch wheel was fitted, the standard tyre was a 165SR14 radial, or 175SR14 for the larger and faster models. There was also the option of fitting a 185/70HR14 or 195/70HR14.

2.5 Litre Commodores were fitted with a 165HR14 radial tyre, with an optional 185/70HR14. The 2.8 Litre versions had a standard 175HR14, and an optional 195/70HR14. 

The Rekord was Opel's large saloon, with the Commodore as its upmarket sibling. The latter was released in 1972, and only sold in six-cylinder form, as a saloon or coupe.
