Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6

Arguably the greatest of the 80s hot-hatches.

Originally fitted with a 185/60HR14 radial tyre.

The Peugeot 205 GTi burst onto the scene in April 1984, with a 105bhp 1580cc fuel-injected engine, a five-speed gearbox and front disc brakes. A convertible debuted in autumn 1986 called the 205 CTi; it was mechanically identical to its hatchback sibling.

A 205 GTi 1.9 went on sale in January 1987 with disc brakes all round and 130bhp thanks largely to cylinder head improvements. Camshaft and cylinder head revisions also saw the GTi 1.6’s power rise to 115bhp. A catalytic converter was optional from January 1990 (standard from August 1992), reducing power of the 205 GTi 1.9 to 122bhp. A September 1990 facelift brought clear front indicator lenses, revised tail lamps and remote central locking, then in October 1991 the 205 CTi got the 1.9-litre engine with a standard catalytic converter; air-conditioning and ABS became optional for the hatch at the same time. The 205 GTi 1.6 was discontinued in August of the same year and the 205 GTi 1.9 in April 1994.
