Standard fitments are (hard as it is to imagine, the Golf did have NLA crossply tyre options on its release!):

Golf Mk1 - the 1100cc models had a 145SR13 radial tyre, with the option of a wider 155SR13. or even 175/70HR13 tyre on a selection of wider rims. The 1500cc versions started at a 155SR13, with the option of a 175/70HR13 (this was standard on the 1500 GL, GLi and convertible).

Golf Mk2 - the 1100cc and 1300cc models had a 155SR13 radial tyre, with the option of a wider 155SR13. or even 175/70HR13 tyre on a selection of wider rims. The 1600cc versions had a 175/70HR13, and the 1800/Driver cars had a 14-inch wheel with a 185/60HR14 tyre.

The core models of the Golf legend, the Mk1 and Mk2 set the template for the small hatchback, despite not being first to the punch. Even VW's later Golf's are measured against these.
