Standard fitment sizes are as follows (initial models did have a NLA crossply):
Mk1 Passat LS, GLS, Coupe and Variant/Estate - 155SR13 radial tyre, or 175/70SR13 option
Mk1 Passat TS - 175/70SR13 radial tyre
Mk2 Passat - 155SR13 radial tyre as standard, with an optional 175/70SR13. There was also a wider wheel option with a 185/70SR13. Later versions, and the Santana had a 14-inch wheel, with a 195/60HR14 radial tyre.
Much better than the K70 stopgap model it replaced, the Passat was very much a larger version of VW's highly successful models. Drives well, looks good, and is very practical. There was an early Coupe version, and a selection of hatch, saloon and estate bodies over the life of the Mk1 and Mk2. The GX5 is a very unusual 5-cylinder performance option!
